About Rorshach

“Similar to the Rorschach Test inkblots used by old psychologists to gauge personality and emotional functioning, art can serve the same purpose. Our artwork is driven by our own narratives, but we hope to leave enough room for vastly different interpretations. We’re always inspired by new perspectives of our work, so we emphasize the question: …what do you see?”

ANDRE LEON x ROBERT RAMone

RORSHACH consists of Andre León and Robert Ramone. Two bothers born and raised in the gritty and beautiful city of Newark, New Jersey. Like many other inner city kids from around the world, their childhood was solely focused on circumventing the obstacles set against them. Both from deeply rooted immigrant Latino households, these brothers were not bonded by blood, but by a connection at a young age that was due to both their many similarities and differences. This balance would follow them into adulthood as they grew into their respective artistic identities.

Andre’s interest in fine art was minimal compared to Robert’s immersion in the graffiti scene. Eventually though, it inspired Andre to start painting as well. And so, the inevitable happened--they formed like Voltron, creating a cohesive style of their own. This style would mesh both their fine art and graffiti sensibilities together.

Now, their focus is on creating artwork that reflects their environment. This environment consists of chaos and beauty; oppression and freedom, and the inspiration between it all. With their consistently evolving styles, a specific one is difficult to pinpoint. However, their work has been described as narrative figurative realism and abstract expressionist graffiti.
